BHUTAN TRUST FUND FOR ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION

GCF approves the CARE-LG Project

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) board approves the Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation's (BTF) project proposal during its 39th meeting (B.39) held from July 15 to July 18, 2024, in South Korea.
Following this approval, the Funded Activity Agreement (FAA) between the BTF and GCF was signed on July 18, 2024, relating to the funding proposal SAP 038 - “Climate Adaptation, Resilience and Engagement in Local Governments, CARE–LG”.
The CARE-LG project aims to bolster both technical and institutional adaptive capacities and knowledge within local governments to support locally-led climate responsive practices. It emphasizes placing local communities at the forefront of adaptation planning and budgeting processes, ensuring that interventions are tailored to meet the specific needs of local governments and communities.
The project will establish a grant facility targeting the most vulnerable communities identified in the country’s 2023 Climate Vulnerability Risk Assessment Report. Additionally, the project will support gender-friendly farm mechanization, provide equipment, promote green initiatives, and implement nature-based solutions to enhance ecosystem services and community resilience.
The project will be co-executed by the Department of Planning, Budget and Performance (DPBP) of the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and the Department of Local Governance and Disaster Management (DLGDM) of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA).
This initiative reflects a concerted effort to enhance climate resilience at the local level in Bhutan, emphasizing community engagement and sustainable development practices.
BTF was accredited as the Direct Access Entity (DAE) to GCF in 2020.
