The Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation (BTF) and the International Snow Leopard Trust (SLT) virtually signed the Letter of Intent (LoI) today to strengthen collaboration in advancing the conservation of Bhutan’s snow leopards and fragile high-altitude ecosystems.
The partnership reflects a shared commitment to promoting ethical conservation through scientific research, biodiversity monitoring, ecosystem restoration, community-centered conservation, and capacity building. It will also create opportunities for knowledge exchange, youth engagement, specialized training, and long-term conservation planning in collaboration with the Nature Conservation Division, Department of Forests and Park Services.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Karma Tshering, Managing Director of BTF, emphasized the importance of building strong technical partnerships to achieve lasting conservation outcomes. He noted that the signing of the LoI with SLT marks the beginning of a collaborative journey that will set the right direction for snow leopard conservation in Bhutan, inspire other partners to pursue similar collaborative efforts, and further strengthen collective action toward a shared vision of protecting Bhutan’s unique high-altitude ecosystems and biodiversity.
This milestone represents the beginning of a long-term partnership dedicated to safeguarding Bhutan’s iconic snow leopards, supporting resilient mountain communities, and ensuring that future generations continue to benefit from the country’s rich natural heritage.
