The Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation (BTF) successfully conducted an in-country learning visit for stakeholders under the Project Formulation Grant (PFG) of the Adaptation Fund Locally Led Adaptation (LLA) Project, “Securing Water and Enhancing Climate Resilience in Thimphu (Rural) District, Bhutan,” from 16–20 August 2026.
The visit brought together approximately 50 participants which includes local government representatives, community members and farmers, from four Gewogs of Thimphu Dzongkhag. Following travel on 16 August, participants spent exploring climate adaptation sites in Tsirang and Dagana under the Adaptation Fund project “Adaptation to Climate-Induced Water Stresses through Integrated Landscape Management in Bhutan” on 17–18 August, before continuing to Paro on 19–20 August for further field learning.
Through hands-on field visits and direct interaction with host communities and technical teams, participants gained first-hand exposure to proven, locally relevant adaptation strategies from watershed management and climate-resilient water infrastructure to climate-smart agriculture and improved local governance for climate action.
The exchange fostered valuable knowledge-sharing and strengthened participants’ capacity to identify and plan similar adaptation interventions within their own Gewogs, marking a significant step toward locally led climate resilience in Thimphu (Rural) District.
